So here I am beginning my second full week here in Montana. It was great at first, but now that the real lesson planning has begun, I feel like I'm drowning. I have two grade levels, two subjects each. Plus a 7th grade skills class (geography, vocab, spelling, maybe some math facts...not sure yet) and an activity period every Friday for the whole middle school. Oh, and did I mention that my school doesn't believe in using textbooks? So I am having to do all of my own research on everything from the fall of Rome to exploration of the western hemisphere!
How in the world am I supposed to get all of this done and ready for the kids? Not to mention figuring out homework assignments, quizzes, tests, projects, fun activities. I don't know what the heck I am doing and I'm not sure that I'll be ready for the kids on the first few days of school--let alone the first quarter!!
AAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!

Do you know who the previous teacher of these subjects was, and if they have any materials to share with you? Or are there any other teachers that can help? I know when I have to prep a new course, I always look around for people who have taught it in the past, and ask if they're willing to share what they have. It really helps if you can find someone to grab a least some material from! Good luck - let me know if I can do anything for you!
ReplyDeletei love you and am praying for you! drink lots of coffee
ReplyDeleteJessica!
ReplyDeleteHang in there girl! Just remember that God placed you at this school for a reason and you are going to be a huge blessing to them. At my school the teacher's goal is: Love God and love your students. The rest will come! I am praying for you!
Love, Katie
Thanks, all!
ReplyDeleteRobyn, the teacher who taught here before me isn't available to help right now. She did leave a bunch of materials, but no lesson plans...which is almost more overwhelming. But I have found several of her materials helpful. The 4th grade teacher here used to teach my subjects and she has been very helpful, but I am mostly just drowning with day-to-day lesson plan-ish stuff.
Chris--Thanks, buddy. I definitely need all the prayers I can get. And trust me, I am drinking tons of coffee. In fact, it's currently 5:40PM here and all I've had to eat and/or drink today is a carmel frappe from Starbucks :)
Katie--I am hoping that my heart comes through despite the lack of preparation and the lack of experience with this age level. But thanks for the reminder that God placed me here. I need to keep repeating that in my head...and maybe out loud :)
